چکیده
The Executive Body (EB) for the United Nations Economic Commission of Europe (UNECE) Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution (CLRTAP) held its fortieth session 18 December. A key decision adopted at meeting concerned review Protocol to Abate Acidification, Eutrophication and Ground-level Ozone (Decision 2020/2) (Gothenburg Protocol). Other issues discussed included adoption guidance document integrated sustainable nitrogen management 2020/1), compliance issues, capacity building awareness raising promote ratification implementation CLRTAP. These developments occurred against backdrop Declaration Clean 2020–30 beyond, launching forum international cooperation air pollution, occasion anniversary CLRTAP thirty-ninth EB in December 2019. COVID-19 pandemic also continues influence pollution...

Transboundary Air Pollution in Europe: an Interactive Multicriteria Tradeoff Analysis
In this paper, the acid rain problem in Europe is discussed, stressing the transboundary tradeoffs between abatement costs of sulphur emission reduction and corresponding deposition levels in the different countries. An interactive decision support methodology is proposed which utilizes a powerful nonlinear multicriteria software package to evaluate various scenarios and tradeoffs. This methodo...
متن کاملTrade Liberalisation, Transboundary Pollution and Market Size
This paper uses a monopolistic competitive framework with many sectors to study the impact of trade liberalization on local and global emissions. We focus on the interplay of the pollution haven effect and the home market effect and show how a large-market advantage can counterbalance a high emission tax, implying that trade liberalization leads to lower global emissions. Generally, our results...
متن کاملTransboundary Pollution and the Gains from Trade
We analyse the effects of transboundary pollution on trade patterns and welfare in a general equilibrium trade model. Production in a dirty industry generates pollution that negatively effects productivity, both at home and abroad, in a clean industry. Trade may lead to the spatial separation of production but the existence of transboundary pollution can offset the benefits from specialization....
متن کاملMeasurement of Ambient PAHs in Kumamoto: Differentiating Local and Transboundary Air Pollution
We developed an index to investigate the effect of transboundary air pollution (TAP) on the air quality of Kumamoto City, Japan. We estimated the effect of TAP by using the index and positive matrix factorization (PMF). Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and trace metals were analyzed from the daily samples of the Total Suspended Particles (TSPs) collected seasonally from Oct. 2014 to Aug....
متن کاملTechnology diffusion, abatement cost, and transboundary pollution
This paper studies countries’ incentives to develop advanced pollution abatement technology when technology may spillover across countries and pollution abatement is a global public good. We are motivated in part by the problem of global warming: a solution to this involves providing a global public good, and will surely require the development and implementation of new technologies. We show th...
